17… Days of Fashion Recap: Fashion in Philadelphia is on the rise!!!
Nothing can be more fashionable then giving back to charities and Philadelphia proved that it is truly the city of Brotherly Love. I attended the 17… Days of Fashion in Philadelphia, PA and when I say Philly gave back, they did it big for an entire 17 days.
17…Days of Fashion is an event that is has reached its 2nd year in making fashionable events not only glamorous and exciting, but also charitable. The founders of 17… Days of Fashion, celebrity stylist, Anthony Henderson and Tracey Parker felt that the fashion community in Philadelphia has so much to offer from the designers to the models, and the everyday fashionable people that you see on the streets.
“Philly has always had a mind of its own when it comes to fashion,” says celebrity stylist Anthony Henderson. “But I also know that the designers and the entire fashion industry in Philadelphia, my hometown, also has a heart, and this is our way of showing that we care about our city.”
As the umbrella for the charitable events, most of the producers, designers, models and fashion trendsetters were happy with the involvement that Anthony Henderson provided in order to make each production a success.
My celebrity stylist, Giovonni Styles.
According to Giovonni Styles, the designer and producer of the Candy Coated in the Park, “I was very pleased with the amount of support that was given to me by 17… Days of Fashion. They were a tremendous help!”
The first journey in the many days of event was the opening kickoff fashion event that took place on August 19, 2011. The Candy Coated in the Park fashion show was an exciting day of kids, color, and candy that was accented all over the famous tourist landmark, Love Park. The designer and producer of the show Ms. Giovonni Styles, showed off her latest designs for young children called, Candy Coated Kidswear.
Cute children walking the runway.
The usual red carpet was transferred to pink and there were two lovely models and two adorable children holding trays of candy for those that were waiting for photo opportunities. The fountain at Love Park was also transformed from the natural state to beautiful bright pink water in which the runway was set over. Although the event was colorful and the young models were full of vibrant life, the sky was gray and ready to empty its contents of water all over the head of the attendees. But it was not Mother Nature’s intent to rain on the kid’s parade because a raindrop did not fall until the last young model was off the stage.
For each fashion event that was produced during the 17…Days of Fashion, there was a charity that receives proceeds from the event and the receivers of this fun filled fashion show was the Shriners Hospital for Children which for more than 90 years has been providing young children with state of the art, hospital care to help children that are born with birth defects and much more regardless of the families income. The Heart of Fashion Show was a wonderfully directed and entertaining event that gave the stage to the forever fierce, full-figured models. They walked the stage filled with confidence and radiance. The Smooches Full-Figured Models adorned fashions by some of Philadelphia’s hottest designers which included, Jessica Porter, True Divas by Veronica L (loved her work) and Love Cili by Carla.
A portion of the proceeds from the Heart of Fashion was donated to the Women Heart Foundation which is dedicated to prevention, survival and quality of life. WHF accomplishes its mission through education, advocacy and instituting prevention projects. WHF conducts outcomes research and provides free continuing medical education as part of The Gender Care Initiative® to promote excellence of care of women. With a network of executive nurses, civic leaders, women survivors, partners and sponsors, we respond with one voice to the health crisis of women’s heart disease, raising awareness of how heart disease symptoms present differently in women and creating opportunities for wellness, prevention and early intervention. Naeemah Johnson, owner of NBeauty, Inc., hosted the Celebrities for Charity Fashion Show in the upscale shopping district of Philadelphia’s Walnut Street. The lavish event that took place at Club Whispers has a red carpet that was filled to capacity with red carpet guest that included celebrity fashion stylist, Anthony Henderson; the very talented designer of Walish Gooshe, Greg Taylor, Queen B of Hair Battle Spectacular, Go-Go Morrow, Kharisma McIlwaine, and of course me, Tweety Elitou.
The event was a blast and there were some really great fashions on the runway that were jaw-dropping to the Fashionista that likes to make statements. Some of the favorites of the evening were, Tyron Perrin of ,Marquette Collection, with his magnificent floral prints, Walish Gooshe and its 2011 line, and Vamp Boutique.
The show was produced as a launch to Ms. Johnson’s charity, the Ruby Golden Foundation, which is a charity created to give needy children school supplies to ensure they had a great school year and all of the proceeds from the event went towards purchasing well over 100 school supplies which was given out at her salon, Nbeauty Inc. on September 3, 2011rd!
You could tell that celebrity hair stylist, Naeemah Johnson and publicist, Eboyne Jackson put a lot of hard work into the show. I mean everything was fabulous. Even though invited guests, Charlie Baltimore and Jasmine Sullivan couldn’t make it, the show went on like no one was missing!

Naeemah Johnson also expressed her appreciation for all of the support. “The support was great! I appreciate all of the designers, celebrities, and press that came out. I also want to thank the general public who came out and supported to help raise money for school supplies for our children, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!”
Eboyne Jackson,of Divine Influence did an excellent job at running the red carpet and keeping the event organized. The viewers were happy and so were the VIP’s. The overall experience was entertaining and full of fabulousity.

The finale event for the 17…Days of Fashion was an event put together by celebrity stylist, Anthony Henderson and the proceeds were to benefit Career Wardrobe which is a wonderful and dear charity that helps women who are in transition obtain clothing that will allow them to look great and feel confident as they interview for positions that they are able to fill.
Me with celebrity stylist, Anthony Anderson.
The show which was hosted by the outspoken and fabulously dressed, Marcus Gary, was at the top of hisngame in funny moments and sarcastic overtones of humor. The designers that caught the attention of the viewing audience were Dor Rog, with their dare-to-wear-white-after-Labor-Day attire; Tulip by Amber Cuff, a young designer that had beautiful maxi dresses in colorful patterns; Dania N. Richardson and her DNR collection that had dresses fit for an awesome prom to remember; and Blu Dahlia that is a collection of funky mixed patterns and abstract cuts.
Overall, the 17…Days of Fashion was a wonderful event that shows not only that Philadelphia is fashionable but that the City of Brotherly Love will do it fashionably and willingly for causes that benefits their city. Like Anthony Henderson says, “It is fashionable to be charitable.”
SIDE NOTE: I was not able to attend one of the events that was the DivaDon Fashion Faceoff that I heard was awesome! This event that featured fashion designers, models, industry pioneers, trendsetters, rising and aspiring newcomers; and industry stakeholders in the Delaware Valley.
A portion of our proceeds will go to Wysper Foundation for Fashion. Wysper Foundations is an organization implementing fashion programs in underserved urban communities in the Philadelphia region, where interested children & youth are inspired to take hold of their dreams and explore the possibilities.
